Energy and Water Benchmarking Program
Effective August 1, 2023, the Energy and Water Benchmarking requirements under the Clean Energy Act of 2018 go into effect.
As an owner or operator of a commercial building (over 25,000 square feet), you should have received the following letter from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) notifying you about these requirements and what is expected from you. These requirements are intended to measure and analyze your facility’s energy and water consumption and compare performance to similar buildings to identify opportunities to help reduce energy and water consumption and costs.
Please refer to the links below from the BPU website to help answer your questions. We have also provided links to help videos and other resources from EnergyCAP, third-party provider retained by NJNG to manage the benchmarking process for our commercial customers.
NJNG will provide billing data to EnergyCAP for this purpose. Building owners need to create an account in EnergyCAP. Visit ucp.energycap.com/njng for information on how to comply, register and submit information.
We are providing these resources for informational purposes only. If you still require additional information, please contact the BPU directly at benchmarking@bpu.nj.gov.
